DigiType commenced operation in Bendigo in 1988, branching out from a traditional pre-press operation of process camera and vacuum frame, providing film and platemaking services.

The emergence of computer-based typesetting offered a new direction for future development. From a Compugraphic typesetter to an IGX7000 growth progressed into imagesetting, starting with a Linotronic imagesetter and finally purchasing a Screen DT-R 3100.

With the introduction of computer-to-plate technology, it was decided not to progress any further in that direction, but rather concentrate on the expansion of large format digital printing which was growing in tandem with film production.
